Creating A Wire Loop

The wire loop technique is an essential part of jewelry making using wire. Creating a clean wire loop is easy with a steady hand and the right tools.

Start with 4 inches of wire. Using chain nose pliers, bend ½ inch of the wire to a 90-degree angle. For a bigger loop, use longer than ½ inch of the wire.

Next, using round nose pliers, grip the wire flush to the end of the wire. There should not be any excess wire beyond the pliers. Holding the wire with your fingers firmly, roll the pliers with the wire toward your fingers creating a clean, curved shape. Stop when the loop meets the stem. Your first loop is complete.

You can make loops on both ends of your beads to link to other components. String a bead onto the wire of your first loop. With your finger this time, bend the other end of the wire to a 90-degree angle. Make sure the wire is bent as close to the bead as possible.

Repeat the process of making a wire loop as learned in making the first loop. You now have two wire loops perfect for connecting additional components.

Things to remember:
• Some beaders find it helpful to mark their pliers one eighth of an inch from the tip to remember where to begin a wire loop.

• When opening and closing wire loops, remember to twist apart, rather than expand the circle open.
