When I see disco balls I think of two things: New Years Eve and Saturday Night Fever. Obviously. Who doesn’t? But the not-so-humble disco ball is staking a bigger claim in our pop culture consciousness. Faceted and mirrored glass is blazing a trail in fashion, home décor and jewelry. This is the year to dazzle and nothing does it faster than a sparkling ball of awesome in your home or on your wrist. Crafters are picking up these cool glass tiles and making their own mirrored creations, and the beading world is following suit. Check out these jazzy faceted glass beads! As a not-so-closeted scrapbooker, it’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of mixed media art, and when my two worlds collide, like with these new photo pendants, I’m giddy for weeks. Goody Beads already has a fun assortment of funky pewter photo charms, but these new additions are simply breathtaking. Great on a leather cord or a ball chain necklace, these charms offer high-art for a low price. Thoughtful layers of illustration and text come together beautifully in each 22mm charm, it’s as if each were constructed from remnants of old Jane Austin novels, and 60s bird watching magazines. They’re inspiring, nonetheless, and they remind me of one of my favorite mixed media artists, Ann Marshall. Her work is featured in the image above. Happy New Year my fellow beaders! It’s your blog hostess with the mostess—Miss Pearl! Really, it is. I kid you not. I wish I had some great story to tell you about my hiatus from the blogoverse. You know, like world travel, a salacious affair with George Clooney, or perhaps a small stint at a beading boot camp where my little fingers were whipped into Biggest Loser-style shape. The translation of the word Millefiori literally means ‘A Thousand Flowers’ in Italian. It’s easy to see why. Millefiori is a style of ornamental lampwork glass in which glass rods of various colors and thicknesses are fused together to form a shape—typically that of a flower. The finished shape is then sliced into thin pieces that are embedded into clear glass. I’m a big fan of Millefiori. The bold, poppy floral patterns are modern and earthy all in the same breath. These pendants will look great with metal and other lampwork beads. However, simplicity is just as beautiful. Dangle these pendants on a leather cord and you’re good to go.

Millefiori is moving beyond the beading world, as more people fall in the love with the design. I came across the fab quilting fabric above from Fabric and Art.com, featuring Millefiori prints in a variety of patterns and colors. I also found these swanky Millefiori Martini glasses by Debenhams.com. How cool is that? Cheers!

In my kitchen, there is a drawer that contains approximately six pairs of sunglasses. I kid you, not. Six.
